You can discover a lot about Jesus on Google.
But to us, Jesus is more than a bunch of facts or a historical figure to be studied. He is the living, active, life-changing Son of God who wants a relationship with us.
Scripture teaches us that Jesus was God in the flesh, the tangible version of the invisible God. He came to earth because God loved us and wanted us to experience life with him forever.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. (Hebrews 1:3)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Jesus lived a perfect life, meaning he never sinned. He modeled a life of compassion, love and service to others - including those who were often on the fringes of society. He taught his followers to love God and to love others authentically, from their hearts.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
Jesus died an agonizing death on the cross, fulfilling prophesy that was written about him centuries before he lived. He did this act of love to pay the penalty humans deserved for their willful rebellion against God, or sin. Jesus was placed in a tomb on a Friday but was raised to life by God on a Sunday. After that he remained on earth for 40 days until he ascended from earth into heaven, where he lives today.
God was pleased for all of himself to live in Christ. And through Christ, God has brought all things back to himself again—things on earth and things in heaven. God made peace through the blood of Christ's death on the cross. (Colossians 1:19-20)
